As an owner of an aging 26 unit apartment building in Olde Towne Gaithersburg, I owe a huge "Thank You" to Jim Clifford and his team for the endless work and tireless effort they gave to me and the other property owners of the 6 acre assemblage of land that is now known as the Archstone-Smith project. Jim was the driving force behind the success of this project bringing 368 residential units to an aging downtown area that was looking for revitalization. Jim brought his years of experience and extraordinary vision to this project and guided us through every step, with well thought out and forward thinking clarity. The complexities of managing the needs of 6 landowners, and the desires of the City, local residents and business owners, all while producing an economically feasible project for developers would have been overwhelming to anyone else. Jim brilliantly maneuvered through the politics and red tape. The ability to see 5 steps ahead was most evident as the 2007 financial crisis and resulting economic downtown took hold. As similar projects were being abandoned, Jim was able to keep this project on track and obtain higher values for each owner as a result of being part of this assemblage. A Harvard Business School case study could be done on this deal and the adept maneuvering that Jim orchestrated to see it to the finish line. A job truly well done!
